about

"Survival is a must, I say we have to trod on." - Aza Lineage

Aza Lineage is a young singer-singjay from Kingston representing the Lineage family from Hermitage/August Town. Known for killing it on the mic at sound system parties across Kingston, she is a rising talent to watch in Jamaica's emerging roots revival scene.

She says, “The song 'Prosper' is about the rise and upliftment of today's and tomorrow’s youths. It speaks of the determination of a ghetto youth who beats the statistics against overwhelming odds. We have no control over where we are born, yet we see the bigger picture and a greater cause”.

Aza Lineage expresses her struggles and determination through music, explaining, "Music saved my life from becoming a statistic or destruction to I own self, or falling victim to the ills of society. So realising my talent in writing and singing, I paid great attention to word, sound, power, hoping it will bring healing and awareness to listening ears. It is inspiring to me to be able to use music to uplift and spark positive change in others. It is a language of the soul we all speak."

On reggae music, she says: "From its inception, reggae music has been the healing of Jamaica. Now it is the healing of the World. The world is in search of balance and love, which is the ultimate vibration of reggae music."

* LYRICS *

CHORUS

Di youths dem stocking up di paper
Babylon run in and try to be a viper
So we tell dem ease off
Good songs we squeeze off
Di youths dem affi rize, dem affi prosper

They make it so hard for us, we remain conscious
They make it so hard for us, we a still focus
I say they make it so hard for us
We travel Babylon by bus
They make it so hard for us
Still overcoming is a must

CHORUS

No, me nuh like hungry face
Nine year old’s nine pon waist
No me nuh like it, no me nuh like it
Greatness me a embrace
Don't run away from yourself
Endure cause you have the strength
Burn disappointment, meet your anointment
Forward step, get it straight.

CHORUS

Same ting a yaad gwaan abroad
Stick to di original, nuh bother wid di fraud
Life can be easy, some a try fi mek it hard
You heart, mind, soul right now you affi guard
Me rather play fool and mek dem say me soft
We ago pick di lock or we ago kick it off
Special livication to di ones weh have it hard
Survival is a must, I say we have to trod on.
